Obituary of Myrna A. Brown

Myrna A. Brown, 89, of Clinton, passed away January 24, 2024, at The Grand in Utica.

She was born December 6, 1934, in Cornwall, NY, a daughter of the late Thomas and Agnes (Doster) Barrett.  Myrna graduated from Clinton High School in 1953.  Myrna had a way of making people feel welcome, which made her a natural receptionist and switchboard operator.  She worked for Sears-Roebuck, Howlands and Hamilton College.  Myrna lived in Arizona for many years, working at local car dealers, Hilton Hotel and Cruise America RV sales.  Myrna loved to engage in spirited conversation and was known for her mastery of colorful language.  She made friends wherever she went.  She had quite a sweet tooth, loved her collection of teddy bears, dog sitting, bowling, going to her class reunions, trips to the casino, spending time with her family and loved country music (we’ll always remember her by her favorite song “The River” by Garth Brooks). 

She will be greatly missed by her three children and their spouses, Diane Dean of Utica, Dan and Jackie Brown, and Doug and Jennifer Brown, all of Westmoreland; five grandchildren, Dan, David, Ryan, Erick and Amber; seven beloved great-grandchildren, Haylee, Devin, Ryan, Landon, Olivia, Casey and Brayden; her two sisters, Beverly Szlosek and Sheila Fate; two brothers, Tom Barrett and Kenny and Sheila Barrett; and many nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her sister Jeanne Scaccia and a granddaughter Carrie Brown.

Private services will be held for the family in the spring.  She will be buried at Mt. Olivet Cemetery alongside her parents.

Memorials may be made in honor of Myrna to the charity of your choice.

The family thanks the nurses and staff at The Grand in Utica.  They took wonderful care of Myrna and became good friends.
