James (Jim) Joseph Maier passed into the Lord’s hands on June 23, 2023, at the ripe old age of 91. He was born on November 29, 1931, in Reading, PA where he grew up and later moved to upstate and took a job in Rome starting in Autumn of 1961.

Having met at Hotel Utica in 1962, James married the light of his life Rosalia Pazdzio-Maier on October 12, 1963; they lived the entire time in the Mohawk Valley area making a life together and raising their three children. They were married at St. John’s Church New Hartford in 1963 and was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church Clinton since 1973.

Jim worked for the Air Force Research Lab for 49 years as an Electrical Engineer. He served his country in the US Army in Korea with the 180th Infantry Regiment and after the Armistice with the 25th Infantry Division.  He was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge and Presidential Unit Citation.

James received the 50-year pin at Griffiss Park from the Commander Air Force Research Laboratory. Jim was recognized for his contributions at that time to Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) by the Chief IT Operations Defense Intelligence Agency.

Jim was a 1961 graduate with a Bachelor’s of Science from Penn State Electrical Engineering program, and also held a Masters in Management Science from State University of New York, Binghamton Campus.

Jim was a lifetime member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers IEEE, and a lifetime member of American Legion. He was a continuous member of the Mohawk Valley Engineering Executive Council and a Past Chairman. Jim was also a member of the Mohawk Valley Korean Veterans Group and donated over 8 gallons blood via the American Red Cross Association donor program.

Jim holds four US/USAF registered patents during his work at AFRL, Rome, NY.  During the past years, Jim was a volunteer Parent-Agent for Hamilton College and a volunteer admissions person for Penn State.

He and Rose raised three children in the Mohawk Valley, and are the proud grandparents of 9 Grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, their children and grandchildren. The most important things to Jim and Rose were their cherishing of life and its continuation through his survivors.

A viewing will be held at Owens-Pavlot & Rogers Funeral Service in Clinton from 2 to 4 PM on Sunday July 9, 2023 and a Catholic Rite of Christian Burial at St. Mary’s Church the next day at 11 AM on Monday, July 10, 2023, also in Clinton, NY.
