John P. Buschmann, 78, passed away at home on January 18, 2018. He was born July 14, 1939, in Springfield, MA, son of the late John F. and Margaret (Porter) Buschmann. John graduated from Kimball Union Academy and then Boston University. He married Bonnie Ames on August 26, 1961. After college, he served 5 years as an Officer in the U.S. Marine Corp. John became a salesman for Burroughs and Intergraph till retirement. He also purchased the Village Tavern in 1977. His last 15 years were spent on the Pilot Boat for the St. Lawrence Seaway Pilots Association in Cape Vincent, NY. He is survived by his wife, Bonnie; two sons, Jack Buschmann and James and Christina Buschmann; three daughters, Beth and Jim Davis, Bonnie and Andrew Dawes and Bridgett and Michael Hodkin; fourteen grandchildren, Margaret, Katie, John and Allie Buschmann, Amy, Emma and Mia Davis, Porter, Morgan and Evy Dawes, John, Bruce and Claire Burdette and Christian Hodkin. In keeping with John's wishes, a Celebration of Life will be held at 1:30pm on Sunday July 15, 2018 at Millens Bay Union Church in Cape Vincent. A reception will follow at the family home. There will be no public calling hours. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Rome Humane Society, 6247 Lamphear Rd, Rome, NY 13440 or Millens Bay Union Church, 35251 County Route 7, Cape Vincent, NY 13618. The family thanks all of their friends and Hospice & Palliative Care for their support.
