Donald C. Williams, 84, formerly of Brothertown Rd, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 15, 2008 at the Veterans Home in Oxford with his family by his side. He was born January 28, 1924, in Deansboro, the son of the late Donald and Kathleen Cummings Williams. Don graduated from Waterville High School in 1941. He enlisted in the US Navy in 1942 and was honorably discharged in 1946. He served in the US Navy active reserves and was discharged as a Senior Chief Petty Officer. He later enlisted in the US Army Reserves and was discharged 7 years later as a Sergeant First Class. At St. Mary's Church on September 14, 1946, he was united in marriage to Anna Mae "Lefty" Foster, a union of 53 years until her death on July 8, 1999. For 22 years he operated Williams Sunnybrook Farms and was awarded the Oneida County Farmer of the Year & Farm of Distinction. Later, Don worked in the family business - Williams Fence Co. of Deansboro. Don was proud of his work and his community where he was an active member of many organizations. He was a communicant of St. Bernard's Church in Waterville and served on many committees with the Farm Bureau. Don was also a 40-year member of Barton Hose Co where he served as Chief and was Fire Commissioner for 15 years. He is survived by his two sons, a daughter and their spouses, David F. and Pamela Williams of Deansboro, Richard and Glenys Williams of Cazenovia and Kate and Steven Alcott of Sauquoit; seven grandchildren and their spouses, Karin and Frank LaBanca of Sandy Hook, Ct, Jessica and Dave Poyer of Deansboro, Dan and Melissa Williams of Deansboro, Dean Alcott of New York City, Michael Alcott of State College, PA, Patrick Alcott of Sauquoit and Ann and Dennis Bushneck of Nelson; and six great-grandchildren, Anna Rose and Maggie LaBanca, Dylan and Gabe Williams, Gavin and Hanley Poyer. He was predeceased by his wife, daughter-in-law, Betty Jo Williams and his sister, Florence Roberts. Funeral services will be held at 10am Friday, December 19, 2008 at St. Bernard's Church in Waterville where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Burial with military honors will be in St. Bernard's Cemetery. Friends are invited to call Thursday from 4-7pm at Owens-Pavlot Funeral Service, Inc., 35 College St., Clinton.
