John Scotty McPhee III, 87, of Wills Drive, died Sunday, October 26, 2008 at Faxton- St. Lukes Hospital. He was born November 13, 1920 in Clinton, a son of John and Alice Peters McPhee II. Scotty graduated from Clinton High School with the class of 1939. He was a US Army veteran, serving in Italy, Africa and Europe. On January 31, 1947, at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Utica, he married Cyrilla Williams. Mrs. McPhee died December 13, 2001. Scotty retired in 1977 from Griffiss Air Force Base as a supervisor in the communications dept. He was a member of St. Stephens Episcopal Church in New Hartford, Helmuth-Ingalls Post 232 American Legion, Burns-Schilling-Young VFW Post 9591, Clinton-Westmoreland Lodge F&AM and the Utica Temple F&AM and also the Utica Shriners. An avid outdoorsman, Scotty loved gardening, camping, hunting and fishing. He could always be found with his constant companion, Daisy, his Springer Spaniel. He is survived by his daughter, Alice Relyea and her fianc Richard McDonald of Clay; his son John Everett McPhee of Houston, TX; his great-grandson Everett Shelman Tester of New Mexico; and a sister-in-law, Marion Williams of Utica. He was predeceased by his wife and his granddaughter, Sarah Shelman McPhee in 2005, his brother Teddy McPhee, and sister Minnie Walbeck. A memorial service will be held at 10am Friday, October 31, 2008 at St. Stephens Episcopal Church, Oxford Rd, New Hartford. Private burial for the family will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. Friends are invited to call (Today) Tuesday from 5-8pm at Owens-Pavlot Funeral Service, Inc, 35 College St., Clinton.
