Obituary of Gerald Carroll

Gerald (Jerry) J. Carroll, 61, born March 4, 1947 in Bronx, NY; died on Monday, July 14, 2008 after a spirited debate with cancer. He was a 1965 graduate of Clarkstown High School, New City, NY On June 25, 1983, in Barneveld, he married the former Joyce Cryan. For more than thirty-five years, Jerry was employed by the US Postal Service in Utica, retiring in 2002 when he became ill with colon cancer. Jerry was a proud member of the American Postal Workers Union, AFL-CIO. He was also past president of the Central Valley Umpires Association and was an avid softball umpire. He swore on his deathbed that he only missed one call, but he passed without saying what it was. He is survived by his beloved wife, Joyce and their children, Andrea (Donald) Gerling of Boonville; Richard (Camille) Jeffers of Utica; as well as his adored grandchildren, Nicholas and Benjamin Gerling, Rich, Joshua, Tiffany and Stephanie Jeffers; his brothers and their wives, William and Yolanda of New City, NY, Richard and Margaret of Bainbridge, Thomas and Veronica of Virginia Beach, VA, James and Sheila of Liverpool and Robert and Mary of Rome; his sister-in-law and her husband, Linda and Martin Lyden of Rensselaer and their son, John with whom he shared a passion for baseball, and many other special nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his parents, Thomas and Anna Carroll; his sister Anne Carroll, his nieces Patricia Carroll and Heidi Kunkel and his nephews Thomas and Shawn Carroll. A special thank you to all the physicians who cared for him, Dr. Scott Brehaut, Dr. Mario Carrillo, Dr. Samir Desai. Thank you to George, Laurie and Kelly and the staff of Barneveld ACP for all your kindnesses. To all those Angel Nurses of Hospice & Palliative Care, Infusion at Dr. Desais office and to Mary, Val, Sheila, Lisa and Sister Sharon, you all have a special place in his heart and ours.
