Helen M. "Lollie" Monohan, 85, of Hamilton Place, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 14, 2013 at the Siegenthaler Center with her family by her side. She was born September 7, 1928, in Frankfort, the daughter of Frank and Jennie (Valent) Sanders. She was a graduate of Frankfort High School Class of 1945 and the Utica School of Commerce. On August 19, 1950, she was united in marriage to John L. Monohan, a blessed union of 62 years, until his passing on July 8th of this year. The couple resided in Ilion for 50 years before moving to Clinton. Helen was a library aide at Barringer Road Elementary School for many years and worked at the Ilion Public Library, where she was the past president of the board. She was also past president of the Ilion Garden Club and Historical Club of Ilion. She was a member of St. Mary's Church, Clinton and its' 3rd Thursday Group and Church of the Annunciation in Ilion. Helen was a NY Yankees fan and enjoyed time on Fourth Lake in the Adirondacks. She is survived by four daughters, two sons and their spouses, Christine and Dr. John Menard of Clinton, Kathleen and Matthew Romano of Moreau, Mary Ellen and Thomas Buccafurno of Rochester, Susan and Joseph Crua of Schoharie, John L. Monohan Jr. of Clinton and James and Nola Monohan of Clinton; six grandchildren, Elizabeth and Ben Coven of Boston, Sarah Menard of Boston, Christopher Romano of Boston, Mary Kate Monohan of NYC, Lt. James and Winnie Monohan of Washington, DC and John and Julia Monohan of Phoenix, AZ; a great-grandson, John Lawrence Monohan; many nieces and nephews and Godchildren. She was predeceased by her parents and her husband, John. All are invited to call Monday, September 16, 2013 from 4-7pm at Owens-Pavlot & Rogers Funeral Service, Inc., 35 College St., Clinton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, September 17, 2013 at 10am at Church of the Annunciation in Ilion. Burial will follow in Armory Hill Cemetery in Ilion. Please consider donations to The Siegenthaler Center, Clinton Fire Dept or Ilion Library - Friends of the library. The family thanks the nurses and staff at the Siegenthaler Center who treated Helen with such dignity and care. They gave peace and comfort to Helen and her family during this difficult time.
