Obituary of Lawrence "Larry" O. Bishop

Please share a memory of Lawrence "Larry" to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Lawrence (Larry) O. Bishop, 69, died unexpectedly on December 10, 2016 at Sitrin Home. As Larry often mentioned, he was born March 16, 1947, son of Donald and Susan Hyde Bishop. Larry had many talents as a child and young man; excelling in guitar, building things, art and working on antique cars. He enlisted in the US Navy in 1966 and was stationed in Rhode Island on the USS Essex as a constructionman (Seabee). Larry had a Jeep and he gave nurses rides to and from the hospitals during the blizzard of '66. On June 16, 1967, Larry was seriously injured in a car accident and remained hospitalized until 1981 when he came home to live with his Mother and Dad. He remained home or with his Mom, his sister Julie and her husband Bill until 2014 when he entered Sitrin. He was very proud of his Navy service. Everyone around Larry knew him as happy, fun and a jokester. He loved to laugh and shake your hand. He always asked you when your birthday was, how old you were, how old he was and then began asking you each birthday of his family. Larry was an expert at sorting things and spent many hours doing puzzles. He was a member of Stone Presbyterian Church in Clinton. He is survived by two brothers and sisters-in-law, Donald Jr and Joyce Bishop of Prospect and Peter and Donna Bishop of Honeoye Falls; sister and brother-in-law, Julie and William Huther of Clinton; nieces, nephews and their spouses, Donald III and Heather, Jessica, Jordyn and Daniel Bishop, Bill Jr and Christie Huther, Logan and Dylan, Grace and Paul Peterson, Brandon, Tyler and Ricky, Simon Bishop, Andrew Huther and Catherine Richards; lots of cousins he really treasured and longtime friend, Brian Horan. He was predeceased by his Father, Donald in 1994 and his Mother, Susan just last month. A special thank you to Sitrin - Sequoia staff and his longtime CareGivers aide Geraldine, for their kindness and to Ida, Milo and the ARC staff. A Graveside Service with Military Honors will be held at 2pm Monday, December 19, 2016 at Forest Hill Cemetery in Utica. There will be no public calling hours. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Disabled American Veterans, PO Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301 or DAV.org.
