Obituary of Donald P Johnson

Donald P. Johnson, 85, of Utica, passed into the arms of The Lord on Saturday, March 26, 2016 at Faxton-St. Luke's Hospital. He was born to the late Donald and Ruth (Brest) Johnson on August 13, 1930 in Utica, NY. Don served in the US Marine Corps from 1951-1953 and then earned a degree from Utica College. He was united in marriage to Jane Buchanan in 1955. The couple had six children together. He worked as the Operations Manager for the Alling and Cory Company in Yorkville, NY for many years. In 1978 Don married Wilhelmina Robinson. After Don's retirement he and Willie traveled extensively all over the country and abroad. They loved their RV and had many great adventures. They always had a large gathering of family and friends for their annual 4th of July party. Don also enjoyed working on carpentry projects in his workshop. He made many special gifts for his grandchildren, including a playhouse that he built for Nicholas, a toolbox for Justin and a dolls clothes closet for Carla. Don is survived his sister, Barbara Carr of Punta Gorda, FL; his children and step-children, Margaret and Chris Mortensen of Gulfport, FL, Jeffrey Johnson of Utica, Susan Johnson (Piccione, Noon) of New Hartford, David Johnson of Yelm, WA, Mary and Gino Laurenzo of New Hartford, Jennifer and Rev. Joseph Chamberlin of Lowman, NY, Karen Robinson of Virgil, NY and John Gregor and Melodie Robinson of Munnsville; grandchildren, Kristen and Ben Gorter of Groton, CT, April Mortensen of Gulfport, FL, Justin Piccione and Katie of New Bern, NC, Carla Noon and James Schiess of New Hartford, Bart, Gino, James and Nicholas Laurenzo of New Hartford, NY, Paige Burleigh of Stockbridge, GA, Melissa and Asher Sinclair of Sherrill, NY and Monica Wing and Michael Geary of Verona ; three great-grandchildren, Alyssa Piccione, Aidan and Angelina Nadal; and dear friends, Helen and Russ Humphrey. He was predeceased by his wife, Willie; stepdaughter, Diana Robinson; grandson, John Elliott; brothers-in-law, Robert Fagan, Gerald Carr and Charles Werner. All are invited to call on Thursday, March 31, 2016 from 10am - Noon at Owens-Pavlot & Rogers Funeral Service, Inc, 35 College St., Clinton and stay for the funeral at Noon.
