Obituary of Donald J. Hubbard

Donald J. Hubbard passed on to his reward, June 18, 2008. He was born in Cape Vincent, NY, on September 27, 1925, the son of Carl and Mabelle (Constance) Hubbard. In 1951, he married Helen Schwarckopf in Watertown, NY. He is survived by his wife; they were married for 57 years. He is also survived by their five children, two daughters and three sons; Aimee and her husband Thomas LaBarr, Teresa Tercero and her life partner Stanley Hicks of California, Scott, Timothy and his wife ALisa of Indiana, and David and his wife Desere of New Hampshire. He is remembered by his four siblings and their spouses; Leslie and Katherine Hubbard, Gerald and Judy Hubbard, Connie and Ernest Gardner, and Marie and Ivan Stanton. Grandpa was very special to his 14 grandchildren, Cristina, Jerica, Rebecca, Jennifer, Madeline, Ainsley, Stephen, Maria, Lillian, Vincent, Thomas, Isabelle, Philip and Maureen; and to his four great-grandchildren, Tyler, Allyson, Karissa, and John. During WWII, Donald served with the 10th Mountain Division in the horse cavalry. He later became president of the New York Chapter of the 10th Mountain Division Association. He and his wife Helen maintained a close relationship with the 10th Mountain Light at Fort Drum. He was active with the American Legion Post 26 and felt a strong patriotic bond with all U.S. military. Donald worked for General Electric, then H.P. Hood. For over 50 years he was an active member of the Church of the Annunciation of Clark Mills and the Holy Name Society. He was in the Knights of the Columbus, various community groups and the Upper Mohawk Fur Harvesters. In 2002, Donald was inducted into the NYS Outdoorsmen Hall of Fame. Funeral services will be held 9:15am Monday, June 23, 2008 at Owens-Pavlot Funeral Service, Inc, 35 College St., Clinton and 10am from Church of the Annunciation, Clark Mills where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Entombment with military honors will be in the Holy Trinity Mausoleum. Friends are invited to call Sunday from 4-7pm at the funeral home. Clark Mills American Legion Post 26 will conduct services Sunday at 6:30pm.
