May R. (Billy) Bessmer, 79, of Oneida, passed away Friday March 21, 2008, at the Oneida Health Care. She was born in Oriskany May 20, 1928 the daughter of John J. and Elsie Scheidegger Reber. She was educated in Oriskany schools. In Rome she married John (Jack) Castle. She later in 1973 married Frederick Bessmer in Rome. Mr. Bessmer passed away in 1992. For several years she was employed by Aurora Bowling in New Hartford and retired from Oneida Ltd. in Sherrill. She was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, Rome. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law James and Deborah Castle of Westmoreland, two daughters and sons-in-law Patricia and Kenneth Spaven of Westmoreland and Rebecca and Scott Hotaling of Oneida, also children Kathy, Theresa, Joseph, William, Daniel and Andrew Bessmer, eight grandchildren and spouses, Kyle and Michelle Castle, Shannon and James Olivierio, Kenneth Spaven, Melissa and Marty Oleniuch, Jason Spaven and Amanda Spaven, Reyanin Peck, Lisa and William Winslow, and five great grandchildren. A Sister Jeanette Scherz of Rome, sisters-in-law Doris Reber, Betty Reber, Alyce Reber, Agnes Reber. She was predeceased by four brothers, John, Albert, George, and Karl Reber and sisters Elizabeth Siegel, Fannie Beer, Martha Campbell, Hilda Reber, and Clara Rieben. Funeral services will be at the convenience of the family with burial in Valley View Cemetery, Oneida. There will be no public calling hours. Arrangements are by Owens-Pavlot Funeral Service, Inc., Clinton. Those so desiring please consider donations to the Arthritis Foundation , CNY Chapter, 5858 E. Malloy Rd., Syracuse, NY 13211.
